As a blogger for Mental Floss in his early career, this earned him a job writing the The Sherlock Holmes Handbook to accompany the 2009 feature film.
Before Fame
After graduating from Kenyon College with a degree in English literature, he studied film at the University of Southern California.
Family Life
In 2013, he married fellow author, Tahereh Mafi, the creator of the popular novels The Juliette Chronicles. In May 2017, they welcomed their first child together.
